Abstract

Stafne’s bone cavity (SBC) appears as a well-defined radiolucent image generally located in the mandibular molar region, close to the angle and below the mandibular canal. Two cases of female patients aged 60 and 51 years are described. The panoramic radiograph of each patient revealed the presence of a radiolucent image, inferior to the mandibular canal, with defined limits and corticalized edges. In the cone beam computed tomography studies, it was observed in the coronal and axial sections, the well-defined concavity, formed at the expense of the lingual bone table, showing tomographic signs compatible with SBC. In the cases presented, its location, the absence of associated symptoms, and the imaging characteristics allowed us to conclude that it was SBC. Differential diagnosis includes traumatic bone cyst, salivary gland tumors, intraosseous hemangiomas, central giant cell lesions, fibroosseous lesions, eosinophilic granulomas, metastatic diseases, and ossifying fibromas. This entity does not require treatment and the conduct to be followed is to carry out periodic radiographic controls.
