Abstract

Metastatic lesions represent 1% of tumors in the oral cavity, which makes their diagnosis more difficult. This is why clinical and imaging training is vital for the surgeon as it allows the available resources to be used more accurately. Since most oral manifestations caused by metastasis come from the lung, breast, and kidney, simple imaging is a basic and indispensable tool to rule out primary tumors of pulmonary origin. A case of 72-year-old male patient, with a history of smoking for 25 years, attended the Maxillofacial Surgery service of the Hospital General del Oeste “Dr. José Gregorio Hernández” presented an increase in volume in the mandibular region, for which a biopsy and simple imaging of the face and chest were performed, and led to the diagnosis of oral manifestation of pulmonary adenocarcinoma. This case demonstrates the importance of simple imaging in the orientation of the diagnostic pathway in metastatic lesions of the oral cavity.
