Abstract

The dentigerous cyst is the second most common odontogenic cyst of the jaws after the radicular cyst, which is generally detected as an incidental radiographic finding during the routine dental consultation in which a radiolucent image associated with a retained dental organ can be observed, its treatment. It basically consists of marsupialization or enucleation of the lesion. The following describes the case of an 8-year-old patient who attended the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Service of the Hospital General del Oeste “Dr. José Gregorio Hernández” due to increased volume in the lower right facial third. The lesion was treated by marsupialization and clinical and radiographic controls were performed using orthopantomography at the third, fifth and seventh postoperative month, observing optimal eruptive process of the dental organs involved. It is considered that orthopantomography is an indispensable tool during the monitoring and evolution of dental eruption after marsupialization, based mainly on factors such as the age of the patient and the depth of the tooth associated with the dentigerous cyst as determinants of a satisfactory evolution.
