Abstract

Supernumerary teeth are an alteration in development represented by an increase in the number of dental units. The diagnosis of a supernumerary tooth (ST) is clinical and radiographic, these generate different alterations such as malocclusions, retention of primary dental units, delayed eruption, ectopic eruptions, crowding, dental displacements, dilacerations, root resorption, are part of tumor lesions such as follicular cysts and odontoma. A case of paramolar ST causing root resorption of the upper right first molar is described in a 36-year-old female patient with no relevant history, referred to the radiological center for study by cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). In multiplanar reconstructions the presence of ST could be evidenced, located in the palatine alveolar bone at dental unit 16, in distoangular position, conical rudimentary morphology, complete rhizogenesis, presence of periodontal ligament, pericoronary cap, partially erupted crown, whose root cervical third impacted against the cervical third of the palatal root of the tooth 16, causing external root resorption. The management of supernumerary teeth depends on the type, position and complications. The imaging study is essential for the planning of a multidisciplinary treatment
